Monarch residents have expressed interest in engaging social and recreational programming, and we are seeking a volunteer Bingo Caller to support a monthly Bingo activity on site. The volunteer will call out Bingo numbers and help facilitate gameplay, supporting residents in staying mentally active, socially connected, and engaged in friendly competition. This activity takes place every 4th Thursday at 2:00 PM and fulfills a regulatory requirement for the property. Knowledge of Cantonese is preferred to help ensure clear communication and inclusive participation for residents.


Reports to:

Volunteer Coordinator and the site’s Service Coordinator


Goal of Position:

Provide seniors with an enjoyable recreational opportunity that promotes mental stimulation, fine motor skills, and social connection. Encourage friendly competition while helping reduce social isolation and fostering a sense of community among residents.


Specific Tasks:

  1. Set up the Bingo space, including boards, calling tools, and prizes
  2. Ensure all participating residents sign the attendance sheet
  3. Teach residents how to play Bingo as needed
  4. Call out Bingo numbers clearly and loudly; write numbers if necessary
  5. Monitor games and verify valid Bingo wins
  6. Distribute prizes to winners
  7. Clean and sanitize the activity area after the event


Qualifications:

Physical/Age Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry the Bingo set and prizes
  • Ability to speak clearly and loudly for group participation

Skills/Education/Experience:

  • Knowledge of Bingo or willingness to learn
  • Friendly, patient, and open-minded
  • Interest in working with seniors
  • Ability to support residents with limited English proficiency by repeating or writing number
  • Knowledge of Cantonese is helpful but not required
