Volunteer Opportunities From: Satellite Affordable Housing Associates

Lead a knitting group for seniors at Lakeside Senior Apartments!

Do you want to help seniors overcome technological barriers? Volunteer to tutor technology for seniors living at Doh On Yuen in Oakland! We are looking for a volunteer to assist once a week on Tuesday afternoons (time is flexible).

Many of SAHA’s seniors living in affordable housing want to learn how to use their technology and have very little knowledge of how to operate and navigate a computer, a tablet and/or a smart phone. They have a strong desire and need to learn. Help these seniors operate their technology so that they can communicate with family and friends!

You would be teaching them the basics of how to know if they are signed into WiFi, how to send text messages, how to create an email account and how to send emails. They also want to know how to surf the Web and use apps on their tablets. If you're looking to make a difference in your community, this is a wonderful opportunity to gain teaching experience with students who are eager to learn.

Requirements: Ongoing SAHA Community Volunteers must commit to volunteer once a week for a minimum of 4 months, and must complete a volunteer orientation, volunteer forms and background screening prior to beginning their placement.

Schedule: Weekly on Mondays (2pm-3pm)

We are looking for a volunteer to assist on Friday afternoons. Many of SAHA’s seniors living in affordable housing want to learn how to use their technology and have very little knowledge of how to operate and navigate a computer, a tablet and/or a smart phone. They have a strong desire and need to learn. Help these seniors operate their technology so that they can communicate with family and friends!

Leading Tai Chi for seniors at Valdez Plaza!

Volunteer to lead a Tai Chi class for seniors living at St. Andrew's Manor in Oakland! We are looking for a volunteer to teach for one hour a week on Mondays at 1:30.

Through leading a Tai Chi class you will help to give low income seniors an outlet for physical and spiritual activity and help them to enrich their overall wellness. The volunteer will prepare an agenda for each class and lead residents through various exercises while providing positive feedback and support. If you're looking to make a difference in your community, this is a wonderful opportunity to gain teaching experience with students who are eager to learn.
